We got the rainbow, ocean, wagyu, and teriyaki salmon roll and wow they were all so so good!
Teriyaki salmon and the ocean roll were my favourites. 10/10 sooo good. Managed to eat all of this but 4 rolls is ALOT for two people (I’m stuffed)
Also! You can bring your own wine and it’s $3 a glass- really enjoyed that :)

It was okay... but I think it's definitely over priced for what you get..
I paid $14 for this... and they don't even fill up the tray.. I think that is a little ridiculous considering you can get more for less at other places.

Seriously deteriorated in quality lately!
We have been regulars of Tanoshi and used to buy weekly. Last nights sushi was extremely disappointing. Smaller than usual portion, not fresh tasting and missing fish roe on 6 of the 8 pieces.

The food is absolutely sensational, but can you please get rid of the "green" packaging!?
Not recyclable and a poor combination with sushi rice. Sushi sticks to the box and then fell apart when I tried to remove it. More

Tanoshi is a very popular local Japanese restaurant. With a reasonably priced menu, and great service. It has a wide range of delicious Japanese dishes, sushi, sashimi etc. I love their Agadashi Tofu and the crunch salad.

Not sure about the food, but four of the staff walked out of the restaurant and started smoking with absolutely no regard to who was sitting at the tables in the court yard. It makes me aware of their hygiene in the restaurant. I would have moved but I was half way through my food. More

Recommended dishes: Ocean Roll and Wagyu Roll.
Food: 5/5
Delicious because we asked them to put less sauce in the actual sushi roll; we asked for the sauce to be on the side instead so we can opt to dip the sushi in if we would like to.
We find many Australian sushi places tend to put too much sauce on or inside the sushi rolls which overpowers the ingredients such as the raw salmon or fish roe, or the wagyu.
Lots of vegetarian friendly options too.
Atmosphere:
Lacking in Japanese etiquette. Eg greeting when entering and exiting the restaurant.
Service (including bills)
Poor service by the person at the front. The menu clearly says $22 per roll but he insisted in charging us $22.50 per roll.
This is misleading and deceptive conduct.
However, I'm putting the score slightly higher as the other service by the other Asians in the store was a lot more hospitable, considerate and attentative.
Overall, although I want to rate this restaurant a 1 out of 5 stars due to bad bill servive time, I will rate this a 3 out of 5.
We need more Japanese/sushi restaurants in the south coast. Australia has plenty of fresh and delicious seafood. Let's see more sashimi and sushi restaurants thrive.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tanoshi Ulladulla – Worth it!
Tanoshi in Ulladulla is the best Japanese dining experiences you’ll find on the South Coast. The quality of the food is exceptional, every dish is fresh, beautifully prepared, and packed with authentic flavour. You can genuinely taste the care and skill that goes into each plate, making it absolutely worth the cost.
The front-of-house team deserves a special mention. They’re warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. From the moment you walk in, you’re looked after with the kind of service that makes the whole experience feel personal.
If you’re thinking about going... do it. Tanoshi is a standout. A true gem in Ulladulla.

Kinda hipster place with a lot of potential, than just traditional Japanese.
Service is good, effective, attentive & efficient.
Best Miso Soup I had outside of Japan. It would be even better if adding a bit tofu & seaweed.
Edamame is good too, just the salt could mix well than concentrated on top, by covering the bowl with a plate then shake it like a bartender making cocktail.
Warm Sake is smooth. Even my boss found it easy. Personally I prefer sake be hotter with a bit more kick. Besides, if using the wooden box, traditional way is to fill it up to the rim with a bit overspill into the box.
Gyoza average. Preferably pan fry it more crispy & adding more water therefore to form a thin “pancake” that hold all 5 Gyoza. Just a suggestion.
Cucumber baby roll average, suggest to dip cucumber into ice water to make it more crispy & refreshing.
Teriyaki Prawn Teppanyaki is a bit of a disappointment, being too sweet & some Prawn is not as firm as others.
Given as my personal favourite is Shabu Shabu or Chanko Nabe, & being much older than hipster, you may consider this is just some old man mumbling.
Anyway, looking forward for my next trip down here to try more of your dishes.
